2012 DOOR- Denver Mission Trip Wednesday
Today we went to the St Francis Center, where homeless people are given a safe envireonment furing the day. We worked in the laundry room and helped distribute clothing to the guests. When there were breaks form disrtibuting clothing, we helped organize donations varying from office supplies to basic toiletries. It was great to see how all of the workers accomplished things together to benefit ehe homeless community in Denver.
Today was different that the other worksites , we volunteered at Fellowship of Christian atheletes, a sports camp that provides kids with sports instruction with a Christian outlook. Campers are taught how to work as a team, be good sports and strengthen their Christian core. Brooke helped out with basketball, Helena and Emma helped with cheerleading, and Claire and the DOOR leader Manny helped with football. Aside from the sports, we played games and had a Bible study. It wasd a very rewarding day and the children were precious.
Today we painted an elderly woman's house. We combined with another group from a different church. We painted her back porch and two sides of her house, the gutters, and the front of the house. While we were painitng we accidentally painted each other, we also sang 30 second snippets frorm numerous songs. It was a hot tortutous day and there was rain threatening. We ate lunch with the homeowner and hear some of her story. Today is one of the best days so far.
For our free night we went to El Noa Noa a Mexican restaurant in the Santa Fe Art distirict near the church where we were staying and then we went window shopping at the 18th street mall. Dinner was delicious and it was fun to see all the things the shops had for sale.
